As many of you will know I am keen to present evidence that human consciousness can, under certain circumstances, precognise events that have yet to happen.
Such things have been reported for as long as records have been kept. They are reported in every culture across the globe and occur in all social classes. But modern material-reductionist science simply does not accept that such things can happen. It matters little how many reports are logged or how many people insist that they have experienced “foreknowledge”. The scientists’ logic is a simple one; their present model of reality (specifically the nature of time) cannot accommodate such things. Rather than accepting that maybe their science is incomplete they take one of two approaches:
1. That the person reporting such an event is mistaken, confused, or lying.
2. Simply ignore the event(s) and pretend that they don’t happen.
In my opinion this is BAD SCIENCE! If a phenomenon is reported it should be investigated. Who knows, it may be a clue to a deeper understanding of the natural world. But this is not what modern science, or should I say, the belief system that is Scientism, approaches such “anomalies”. Like any belief system (religious, political or philosophical) events that contradict and therefore lead to potential doubt about the prevailing beliefs are to be condemned, ridiculed and even met with a violent response.
But if there is a definite case of precognition, witnessed by others, in which a series of coincident events come to pass EXACTLY as described by the precogniser then we have something of importance to present to the nay-sayers. This is a “white crow” (As psychologist William James wrote in 1885 – “If you wish to upset the law that all crows are black, it is enough if you prove that one crow is white.”)
Well I have received a fairly bleached-out crow via an email message from one of my readers. Jeff Owen has written to me about his own stunning (and corroborated by his wife, sons and friends).
On the night of Monday 12th September 2016 Jeff walked into the living room from his kitchen. His television was on a sports channel. He saw on the screen an announcement that Newcastle United had beaten Queens Park Rangers 6-0 earlier in the evening. Now this is a very rare score line in football (soccer) and even rarer when it is the away team who score six without reply. As he is a Newcastle supporter Jeff was really excited and shouted to his wife that “we have beaten QPR six – nil!” As he did this he saw another score flash up on the screen, he only managed to take in the score line, not the teams, but he noted that some other team had won 7-0. This disappointed him in that Newcastle had not been the highest scoring team that evening. A few minutes later the 0-6 score line was again confirmed on the screen. Jeff then said to his wife “we have definitely turned a corner.” He then heard Rafa Benitez, the Newcastle manager say, quite precisely “We have done nothing yet” … a curious thing to utter when your team has played so well
On waking the next morning Jeff was keen to know who had scored the goals. At about 06:15 on the Tuesday morning (13th September) he checked the result on his laptop. Much to his annoyance he could find nothing about the game nor, indeed, about the 7-0 game either. He then asked his wife to confirm what day it was. “Tuesday” came the reply. He then realised that the QPR Newcastle game was to be played that night, not the night before. He was stunned. Had he pre-cognised not one, but TWO highly unusual score lines and, added to that a quotation by the Newcastle manager.
On the Tuesday Jeff discussed his precognised score lines with his sons and his workmates. He was keen for as many people as possible to know.
He waited excitedly for the football results that evening. The final score in the Newcastle was Queens Park Rangers 0 Newcastle United 6. Exactly as predicted! Then another score was announced, Barcelona 7 Celtic 0. He had got BOTH scores absolutely correct!
Suspecting that this could be a really interesting event, and an absolute confirmation of precognitive abilities, he texted his daughter the words he heard Rafa Benitez use the night before.
The next day, in responding to the scoreline, Rafa Benitez was quoted as saying “We have done nothing yet” … exactly the wording he had texted to his daughter the night before!
Jeff has had his wife, Anne, send me an email to confirm that the events took place exactly as he described. In her email to me Anne wrote:
“The strange thing was even to this day he does not feel this was a dream he actually stood in front of the TV witnessing it all and said he called out to me where I was in the kitchen, which clearly I never heard as it never happened only in Jeff’s premonition, i told him that he should put some money on it which he declined to do as he did not want to jeopardise what he saw was going to happen, he told our Son and his friend on the way to work that morning that he would prove to them that he can see into the future and that Newcastle would win 6-0 that evening, he also told our daughter by text that Raffa would then say we have done nothing yet!”
Jeff is happy to supply me with more supporting comments from his son and his friends.
I agree with Anne that this seems quite an unusual set of circumstances in that Jeff was seemingly awake when he hear/saw the results and comment. I would argue that it is an example of a hypnagogic image that overlaid external reality (something I will be discussing in my next book). This is supported by the Metachoric Theory of Celia Green, Charles McCreery, which I discuss in some detail in “Opening the Doors of Perception.”
So my question to my critics, and those who deny such events take place —– how do you explain this one? Coincidence? You cannot fall back on the old tropes “confirmation bias” or ”attention bias” in this regard …. I guess that the only defence you will use to keep your paradigm intact is to just state “the plural of anecdote is not proof” …. To which I counter that proof such as this would certainly be acceptable in a court of law ….. so go on … explain it…….
