I recently read the latest book by Thomas Nagel, “Mind and Cosmos: Why the Materialist Neo-Darwinian Conception of Nature Is Almost Certainly False.” I have been a huge admirer of Nagel’s work ever since I first encountered his amazing academic paper “What Is It Like To Be A Bat” (The Philosophical Review October 1974 pages 435-450) but this book is really a powerful intellectual ripost to the prevailing Materialist-Reductionist model. The gloves are suddenly off and certain intellectual giants are really smelling blood….. And here is a review of Nagel’s book in the New Yorker magazine that has surprised me by its level of positivity with regards to Nagel’s position via-a-vis materialist-reductionism …. http://www.newyorker.com/books/page-turner/thomas-nagel-thoughts-are-real
