I heard on the radio yesterday morning that the Large Hadron Collider is about to be switched on again. This time they are looking for evidence for “super-symmetry” …. this fascinates me as it suggests that for each known particle within the “standard model” there should be a partner particle which in turn will lead to a grand-unified theory which will mathematically link electromagnetism and the strong and weak nuclear forces….. in effect link the up Einstein’s physics of Relativity with regards to “big” objects and Quantum Mechanics which deals with the very small. At present when the maths that supports one is applied to the other impossible results come about … so clearly there is something very wrong. It is believed that if the “partner particles” predicted by the “SUSY” model then a “Grand Unified Theory” may be possible. We live in exciting times ….
