Nova s39 ep5 The Fabric of the Cosmos What Is Space

Quantum physics deals with the science of the very small - the very building blocks of matter. However over the last ninety or so years this obscure area of research has shown that the universe is a far stranger place than anybody could imagine. Everything we perceive around us is built of waves of probability and particles that zip in and out of existence. However ITLAD/CTF suggests that it is within this area of research that the very nature of conciousness itself may be understood. Can this be correct? Join in the debate here.

Another excellent documentary from Nova which really puts the BBC's Horizons to shame.

Nova's usual excellent graphic representations of (over simplified but very good) situations.
Only spoiled at the end by a poor presentation of the possible holographic universe theory.

Another recommended watch for all

Some things to consider why you watch

The universe is expanding at an increasing rate. Could the big bang fuel an increasing speed of expansion?
Gravity attracts but atoms repel
Quantum energy/activity has pressure as proven by two plates experiment.

Dark energy - quantum pressure (two plates experiment)
Energy from big bang could be rebounding back into our bit of the universe from 'elsewhere or simply be coming in from the larger multverse?

Dark matter - resistance of the universe expanding into the multiverse?

If the universe is a bubble, are we on the outside, on the inside, or in a surface skin?

the act of seeking would suggest one does not understand it ;)

I watched the first episode and loved it.

Here's a question I had. He spoke of gravity as being a result of the space/timefabric but some physicists still refer to it as a "force". Should we stop thinking of gravity as a force, and if so why do we expect to see at the quantum level?

Perhaps someone would like to enlighten me?

Gravity....
when we speak of the gravity of a situation, it is thought to be how serious it is.... thus it follows how much it "matters"
for instance "grave" danger..... the more something "matters" to you the more solid physical matter it resonates with you.
to transcend the realm of the physical matter world, or go beyond the "grave" would be to become lighter in resonance, a place where things do not "matter".... gravity is an illusion of the mind.... one does not float up physically without it, one simply understands that it is all in the mind and transcendence is simply to let go the fear of death or the "grave" and let ones spirit become lighter.... thus one attains...ENLIGHTENMENT....:)

If they do then please pass it on. :D

addendum
One way of thinking of gravity is as an inertial effect to the expansion of the space/time of the universe. This could be complete hogwash, but is worth a thought in my view.

The relativity theories got there names because of attempted inclusion or not of gravity....
