when reading this, bear in mind that I hardly walk anywhere (usually go by bike or car) and that something changed our minds (google maps on my iphone) about which route to take.
My wife is currently in hospital after enduring months of back/leg pain and then a five hour operation today.
The kids and I decided to take the 15 minute walk form our house to the hospital this evening (mainly due to the fact that it cost three quid to park for an hour and a half in the grounds!).
We started our trip a little unsure as to the best route to take, having not walked the 'shortcut' to the hospital before. We took a turn up one road and then decided to take an alternative route upon looking at google maps on the iphone. This meant going back on ourselves a few yards out of the turning we'd just taken.
So there we were, ambling along folllowing the screen when I noticed a little bundle of folded papers on the floor.
I picked them up, gawd knows why, and unfolded them. There were three unmarked blank checks folded together. So? you may be thinking...
The cheques - ooh, I feel all weird writing it up now - are in the name of - blimey this is weird! - the lead chracter of my book! Daniel Payne
Now, I started writing this book over a year ago, and I am still only half way through.
I was almost dub-struck, and the kids were amazed!
I joked to them that maybe he is here just because I wrote about him, that I brought him into existance through my book. Also that perhaps we are all characters in a book.
We so easily could be, couldn't we?
