Yes, you have all been very helpful to the new guy. I'm still sort of soaking it all up. I'm gonna be offline for a few days, but this is a good thing.
As to movies I've seen recently.....not so much. But I did acquire a few that I'm very interested in. Firstly there is Vanilla Sky, which is highly recommended here, but not so much so by my friends. I reserve judgement and will watch it this evening.

Secondly, there is one that looks like it should be ITLADIAN. I haven't even heard of it for sure, but I bought it on an impulse. Mayhaps Daemonic guidance???? We will see. The title of this one is called, "The Life Before Her Eyes" and it stars Uma Thurman and Evan Rachel Wood. The synopsis on the back was written by someone who did not speak english as a primary language, but I got the idea that it is about a shooting where this woman's friend was killed. I anticipate a sort of Jacobs Ladder twist at the end, but I will let you all know how it turns out.

Well, I've got to go watch a movie and clean my weapon.

Martin: That is the picture which is going to make you: look to it! That is the one; it is on my facebook page now and requested by the teeming masses. . . I happened to see Vanilla Sky recently for the first time with my son, who has seen it many times and loves it. Somewhat depressing, but that is merely a matter of taste and sensibility; I did of course see the parallels to CTF but I like that the latter is more "natural" and classical and fits in with Nietzsche. I guess something too sci-fi in it for me, but it is an acquired taste, as so many things are. There was a movie on cablevision a couple of years ago that sounds very similar to the one mentioned above with Uma Thurman, and I wonder if it may be taken from the same tale. . .

I wasn't planning on getting online today, but since I have an hour or so to kill I have to follow up on my movies.

I watched Vanilla Sky and yes it was ITLADIAN, clearly so. Still I didn't much care for it. Tom Cruise has failed to impress me since the first Mission Impossible came out. I don't know, I just have a hard time getting past him.

Now, in more interesting and less analyzed areas of thought. "The Life Before Her Eyes" was even more representative of Tony's actual CTF theory. The story goes like this, Uma Thurman's character is a woman who is dealing with a shooting at her high school 15 years prior. She has what might be viewed as a "perfect life". She is married to a professor and they have a daughter. Her town is doing a memorial event for the anniversary of the shooting. The story is also told from her view as a teenager and is about the friendship dynamic between her and her best friend (who isn't in the modern part of the story, presumably because she died). She is seeing "ghosts" and having these flashbacks. Eventually, we of course find out that the person who died in the shooting was none other than Uma Thurman's character. And the entire other half of the story was lived in the moments before died.
There is one moment where Uma is delivering some flowers to the school and a passerby asks if she was one of the survivors, to which Uma replies simply "No." In light of the ending I had chills.
In short, I recommend the film. It is not nearly as dark and disturbing as Jacob's Ladder, nor is it as artistic and polished as Vanilla Sky. But it was entertaining and thought provoking.

As i was watching the movie...i was like... i know these guys...these guys who r so neck deep into each other ..why r they fighting....???
Both jim carrey and Kate winslet have given excellent performances....and hve gone into the character...i love the way the director has handled the tender scenes....the one where clem feels shes ugly and joe.. oh! so tenderly tells her shes pretty....and thts one of the memories that he wants to hold on to....the science fiction part..was a bit confusing for me...and... the doc says its brain damage alright!!!!...wish there was a Lacuna here in my neighbourhood..
ok ...the concept of deja vu...cleverly folded into the story..makes watching the movie real exciting...both the couples...joe and clem the doc and mary are drawn to each other though they have gone thru the procedure??so what does it say???is the LAW OF ATTRACTION WORKING HERE???
i loved the snow... the frozen river....motif...the BLUE hair....the chicken eating..the dining dead...the flea market...the dance in underwear....oh and the collective take on human frailities..human beings are so frail
dunno wat else to write but.....yes...the film is definitely ITLADic.....where the subconcious is so erotically titilated...where the deep recesses of the brain is working overtime....and though one is so deep in sleep ( like dead) it still wants to do right and knows wat love is....AMAZING.!!!!!
