Cheating the Ferryman, Is there Life After Death, The Daemon.

This is the forum for all who are interested in the theory of what may happen to consciousness at the point of death as explained in the books 'Is There Life After Death - The Extraordinary Science Of What Happens When You Die' and The Daemon.

Jason Horsley & Gnostic Cinema on Aeon Byte

CTF/ITLAD suggests a very specific structure as to what happens to human consciousness at the point of death. In his writings Anthony Peake also considers that all the elements of CTF can be found in Gnostic teachings. He proposes that the great Gnostic philosophers and writers of the past had an awareness of CTF and described it in esoteric language. The same applies to the great mystic and occult schools of Europe and Asia. Have you an opinion on this? Do you agree that writers such as Crowley, Blake, Blavatsky, Gurdjeif and Ouspensky (and many others) were describing elements of ITLAD in a different form. Was CTF the real secret of the Cathars?

Jason is my guest this weekend. According to him, he's starting to write about Anthony's work on his blog and is ready to shoot some holes in his hypothesis. We shall see. :D Anyway, good program that deals with a lot of Jungian/Shadow/Collective Unconscious stuff:

If art imitates life, then the most popular medium for art these days reveals a civilization that has become increasingly fragmented, out of touch with deeper realities, and struggling to find individuation. Beyond the apparent rise of Gnostic-themed movies, the great cultural films, actors and directors of our era lift a mirror to humanity exposing a desperate struggle to survive in a postmodern world, a paranoia of modern achievements & institutions, and a fear of an empty universe ruled by dark powers. Yet the mirror also hints at the possibility of an alchemical initiation that begins a journey of man's return to his spiritual source, hidden deep in the wastelands of schizophrenic narratives. From the nihilism of Hitchcock to the existential Logos of 'The Matrix', from the desolate Kenoma of Western Cinema to the bleak renditions of Johnny Depp, we seek that spark of Gnosis from their Jungian warnings.

Astral Guest-- Jason Horsley, author of 'The Secret Life of Movies', 'Blood Poets' & 'Matrix Warrior'.

Topics discussed:

--Why film, from its inception, began to diagnose the existential, schizophrenic mind of modern mankind, and how it evolved to be more blatant.
--Why it’s possible that there are indeed shadowy forces using film to corrupt and manipulate our minds instead of it just being explorative entertainment.
--How film is really a type of meditation or Mystery School initiation by how the medium is experienced in itself.
--Why so many movies reflect our dread for machines, aliens and insects; and do so many movies reveal our lack of faith in God because God is oddly always absent (it always seems to be man against some supernatural forces).
--The reasons audiences are so in love with the lovable Serial Killer/Psychotic character, both in film and in real life (and why many of our great icons like John Wayne and Clint Eastwood basically played psychotic characters dressed as heroes).
--A deeper look into such Gnostic movies like ‘Fight Club’, ‘The Matrix’ and others.
----Synchromysticism—a new Gnostic Sect dealing with Conspiracy Theories and Paranoia (guess the expiration date on Neo Anderson’s passport in ‘The Matrix’?).

And much more!!! A dark Jungian program that will change the way you experience going to the movies.

Just go to http://www.thegodabovegod.com/. The program is broadcast all weekend long. Listen to it at your convenience and peril.

Our rebroadcast is ‘Aeon Byte #50-- Gnostic Cinema’ with Eric G. Wilson, author of 'Secret Cinema: Gnostic Vision in Film' and Professor of English at Wake Forest University. A great companion for this week’s program. We take an in depth voyage through the Gnostic-themed movies of the last century. Two thousand years ago they had to write it on paper, but these days Gnostic Scripture is perfect for the medium of film. We take a look at the biology of Gnosticism Proper movies, from 'Metropolis' to 'Donnie Darko' (and beyond); the biology of Kabbalistic movies from 'Frankenstein' to 'Bladerunner' (and beyond); the biology of Alchemy movies, from 'Excalibur' to 'Blue Velvet' (and beyond). We delve into Gnostic themes in television, the gnosis of David Lynch and other cutting-edge directors. We discuss how 'The Matrix' has done more for Gnosticism than even the Nag Hammadi Library, what movies directly borrow from the various Gnostic Fathers such as Basilides, Valentinus and the Prophet Mani, and so much more! Don’t settle for lead when we give you gold!

Next week we bring in the heaviest hitting earthly incarnation of the divine feminine. No…not Mary Magdalene…but Hypatia of Alexandria! Our guest will be Ki Longfellow, author of ‘The Secret Magdalene’ and ‘Flow Down Like Silver’.

I look forward to what Jake has to say regarding ITLAD/CTF. Constructive criticism is always welcome! I have the utmost respect for Mr. Horsley and his work, indeed his latest book, The Secret Life of the Movies is one of the best books on cinema analysis I have ever read.

By the way I have been very careful to try and not use the term "theory" when describing ITLAD/CTF. As FORUM member Neo pointed out to me many months ago, what I suggest is a hypothesis, not a theory.

I too shall be very interested to hear this! So far most of the "holes" Jake has suggested are within ITLAD/CTF have actually been shown to be holes in his own thinking and what William James called the "psychologist's fallacy", but as challenging opinion and alternative perspectives are what I personally want, rather than blind acceptance or universal agreement, I will look forward to this. Thanks Miguel.

I agree that 'The Secret Life of Movie' is a seminal work. I highly recommend it.

All we need to do is eventually get Jake on. He told me he started writing about Anthony's work in his blog, but I can't find it although I know he's dabbling in another blog and is trying to get his own website up.
