As most of you already know hypnagogic and hypnopompic refer to states of consciousness in which one is both awake and asleep. Though this state has been well investigated it is to large extent still not well understood. To be both awake and asleep can be better understood to be experiencing a reality of the conscious and unconscious a scene which Gary Lachman so aptly describes as being reminiscent of alchemy scenes. The hypnagogic state in it's most realized expression is similiar to the near death experience. These states are amazing in that conscious and unconscious actually meet. What wouldn't Freud and Jung have given for such a vision. In this state fear is a common element in the scenes ,actually a stronger fear than can be experienced in conscious life , fear of death .These experiences have been well recorded. The essence of the experience is to overcome and break free of the fear that is where most will awake and not find their freedom. This is the deep fear that is into our very sinew ,fear that armours our energy ,our chakras are closed. Some therapies work on the body , to release our fear . Fear is the root of anxiety. There is much more to its understanding ,but indeed it is the gateway to self realization of our true self when our consciousness shifts to its true centre ,which gnostics symbolized as the centre of the circle.
