Cheating the Ferryman, Is there Life After Death, The Daemon.

This is the forum for all who are interested in the theory of what may happen to consciousness at the point of death as explained in the books 'Is There Life After Death - The Extraordinary Science Of What Happens When You Die' and The Daemon.

Consciousness is simply the biggest mystery known to humanity. What exactly does it mean to say "I am conscious"? How can inanimate matter and a jumble of chemicals bring forth thought and self-awareness? What creates the inner world of thoughts, motivations and fears? What exactly are dreams? what are memories and where are they stored? These are some of the many questions that have been the domain of philosophy for centuries but now a new science - known as consciousness studies - is attempting to give some answers. Taking into account the results of the latest research CTF/ITLAD makes some radical suggestions with regard to consciousness and memory. Are these reasonable?

200 views and two comments (your own comment counts as one).

I have heard the message from Abraham Hicks on multiple topics. In general I am always listening and thinking wouldn't it be wonderful if within this communication from a "higher" collective source of consciousness they would just go ahead and give us the cure for cancer or something trivial like that so that we can say "AHA" this is real and valid. Such a gift could be considered proof that this information is coming from a third party source and not from this woman's mind who is in some sort of self created trance of sorts (so she says). As a lower vibration being (that I am told that I am -- except in my sleep state) that would be a nice way of showing that these higher beings who know all that there is to know can prove to us that indeed this channel is the real deal (since they know that we need proof of the obvious to believe in and acknowledge the message).

These messages of peace and love and bliss have been out there for thousands of years and yet here is a couple who make a living catering this message to a group of American seniors who are looking for such a message (at a cost). What kind of a higher state of being would stand back and allow a couple to milk this information for personal gain ... while at the same time coming forth with a message of service to others vs service to self. There is a contradiction within that makes me question the source.

HigherConsciousness,

I couldn't have put it better myself. I am continually been told about these characters who are "channeling" information from The Planet Tharg or from ascended masters, or 30,000 year old Atlantean priests. Indeed the list is endless. However as far as I am aware absolutely nothing of use, except platitudes and "humanity must learn to love one another" etc. etc. I agree with these sentiments, however in order to have some form of credibility it would be powerful evidence if one of these "entities" told us something that we did not know, but that could be verified by humanity looking in the right place. I am reminded, for example of the way in which In Gulliver's Travels Jonathan Swift wrote that Mars had two moons. After Liliput and before Brobdingnag, Gulliver visited Laputia, a floating island of crazy scientists. Gulliver was speaking of the Laputian astronomers when he noted:

They have likewise discovered two lesser stars, or satellites, which revolve around Mars, whereof the innermost is distant from the center of the primary exactly three of his diameters, and the outermost five: the former revolves in the space of ten hours, and the latter in twenty-one and a half.

The two moons of Mars, Phobos and Deimos, were discovered by Asaph Hall, Sr. on August 12, 1877. He was actively looking for Martian moons so it was no accident. This was 151 years after Gulliver’s Travels. Now, as far as I am concerned this is a pure coincidence. However, as far as I am aware, not one of these "advanced beings" have informed us of anything remotely similar.

But I am happy to stand corrected ......

I was thinking of making a website where channelers and maybe lay-people who had apparent precognitive dreams could post their experiences and they would be time-stamped and sent to a verifying authority.

The site would display monthly stats and as time went on we could get some pretty accurate data on how bad (or good?) these predictions actually are maybe. Maybe not. I never finished the site due to time constraints anyway...may try and resurrect it if I get time.

One thing I have recognized re these channeled predictions - and even in the contactee/abduction tropes - is that if you strip away the paranormal overlay there is an overtly quasi-fascistic undertone to much of it.

I have a friend who's mother got into it and she was instructed by an entity to burn all her daughter's letters (ie my friend's) and cut off all contact. There was some pretty hardcore right-wing stuff in with the message too.

If you look at the phenomenon of 'prediction' (it is actually a business in reality I think and is essentially a cash-cow for someone) it never really comes true but that doesn't seem to stop it being omnipresent. It's like the prediction aspect is not really the point anymore than the horse of the Trojans was important for being a horse.

But maybe we stray to far into tin-foil hat territory there.

I'm not sure if they were received from 'beings' but there are quite a few books that foretold interesting things. One I remember from the 20s called "The SS" about a renegade group of criminals running amok in Europe - can't recall the author and all my books are packed but will try to find out.

Also "Futility" is the famous one about the ship "The Titan" - and there are others, I have a list somewhere.

Re beings revealing things, are you familiar with the Islamic End-time prophecies? Some are interesting, others are plainly ludicrous. The interesting ones list the things that are to happen immediately before the end of the world and contain things like:

  • Food has no nutrients in it
  • the winter is hot and the summer is cold
  • time telescopes and the days seem shorter and shorter
  • A man can talk to his hip and communicate with people in his home
  • a day's journey will be able to be done in an hour
  • Arabs will be the wealthiest people and compete in building the tallest structures on earth
  • Iraq and Syria will be invaded and destroyed

Those are called the 'Minor Signs' and after these the Antichrist shows up - his symbol is 'One Eye' which delights (scares?) the Illuminati believers but I always had a sneaking suspicion about Gordon Brown....

So if there was indeed a group of delighted believers who could influence the above "minor signs" in order to meet this criteria for the "antichrist" to show up they would certainly be very happy to comply. Cmon really?

Don't tell me "resistance is futile" ... ;)

This "antichrist" may seem to be as tough as the Borg, recall their wonderful marketing slogan: "resistance is futile".

The "antichrist" meme is just another unproven doom and gloom fear mongering marketing slogan, very much like the Borg's resistance is futile campaign.

The Borg seemed pretty tough until they danced with Species 8472.
