The Hypnagogic Light Experience

Neurology is the study of the way in which the brain works. CTF/ITLAD suggests that within the structures of the brain - the neurons, the microtubules and the neurotransmitters - may be found the answer to the ultimate question - What happens to human consciousness at the point of death?

Saw this video on Vice TV the other day. Kind of the getto version of the one Tony experienced.

I will be again meeting up with Dr. Winkler, Dr. Proeckl and Evelyn Elsaesser-Valarino in Geneva at the end of January. I will again try out the Lucid Light Stimulator and see what happens this time.

We will also be joined on Saturday evening by writer, journalist and TV "personality" Vitali Vitaliev.

Some of you older and UK based folk may remember Vitali as a regular on BBC TV's "Saturday Night Clive", broadcasting from Moscow and later from Melbourne. He has also appeared on the popular TV series Have I Got News For You:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MSGQ62Vzlo.

I am really honoured that Vitali is visiting Geneva from London that weekend specifically to meet up with me and discuss the implications of ITLAD/CTF for science. We had planned to meet in Liverpool but Geneva sounds much more exotic ;) ) This is no small honour as Vitali is now the features editor for the serious science and technology magazine Engineering & Technology (http://kn.theiet.org/magazine/). He informs me that he has read ITLAD and The Daemon twice and is really intrigued by the implications of my hypothesis. Indeed he plans to interview me for a possible article that hopefully will appear in a future edition. What is astounding is that he will now be extending his visit to the Monday when he has been invited to see in action the Large Hadron Collider ... (priority: meet with Anthony Peake and, as a secondary issue: see the LHC in action ;) )

As the E&T magazine is primarily an engineering magazine he will also be discussing the LL-Stimulator with Engelbert and Dirk. Again it is intended that this will similarly be featured in a future edition.

I am really excited in meeting Vitali. We have spoken on the phone a few times and I will be picking up a copy of his latest book, Life As A Literary Device from Smiths in Liverpool. Vitali informs me that this is very "itladian" and he is keen to have my opinion on it. It is receiving some excellent reviews, such as this one in The Independent:

Smoking DMT and Dreaming Dynamite
Three puffs on the pipe and my eyes gently closed. I couldn’t stop myself from rolling down onto the blanket. My whole body vibrated with a strong ‘electric’ but very pleasant sensation. I felt as if there was a sea of lead above me that pushed me into the soft earth and could feel the ground swallowing me. I heard a very beautiful buzzing that resonated in harmony with the vibrating of my body and felt safe and warm.
Suddenly my whole inner world was illuminated by a huge circle. It was the classical DMT chrysanthemum which shone with beautiful tones of orange and pink. (I have since connected the shape to looking down on a pine cone from the top... pineal gland?) I watched amazed as the circle spun and expanded and, gradually, from the centre a white light appeared. It was a blue white colour, very brilliant yet didn’t hurt my eyes. I focused on this light and began to make out a human-like form that took shape around the light. The light was shining from its solar plexus region. As the shape became clearer I saw one of the most beautiful beings I could have ever imagined. He/she was milky and transparent and had coloured lights twinkling and moving all over its body. No hair. The closest thing I have seen to this are a certain type of jelly fish we get here that shine with iridescent lights. As things came more into focus I saw it had huge transparent butterfly wings that were also glowing with lights. I felt total peace and connection with this being. I knew, but couldn’t quite see, that there were more of them around me. I looked up above its head and saw a massive hand of Fatima hovering above me. The outline of the hand was sketched in electric blue against a black background. The moment I saw the hand it came down and gradually became smaller until it was the size of a normal hand and then it touched the centre of my forehead. The being then began to speak. Its lips didn’t move but I heard its voice inside my head and it was like the most normal thing in the world to be spoken to in this way. It told me not to be afraid and that there were plenty of things that I had to do but the first thing was to look above my head. Now this is where everything gets a bit weird because, although I had no sensation of being in my body, I was, and at the same time I was looking at the top of my head. The only way I can try to explain my vision of things at that moment was as if my eyes has grown stalks and could move around independently and ‘see’ the top of my head. I saw a gigantic stone portal like that of an ancient temple rising up into space from the top of my head. Although by this time I was floating in a sea of colours, through the portal I could only see the darkest black. Then the being said I needed to go through the portal and all would be well. Again, things get really weird because somehow I was there with this massive portal coming out of my head but at the same time I was going through it... I was just about to cross the portal when I awoke. The whole journey lasted about 11 minutes but the sensation of time on the other side was much longer.
After waking I felt really normal... more normal than normal... no sensation of ‘hangover’ or any difficulty in distinguishing one world from another. I felt that the distance between these two worlds was infinitely small yet they were totally distinct from each other. I have read that mystical experiences are felt as being more real than reality. This is exactly the sensation I got. I have tried other psychedelics like LSD and mushrooms but the sensation is very different. With ordinary psychedelics you get a dream like quality about things and it is as if this world were enhanced in some way. I have taken LSD since the seventies and, although the doses in those days were really strong and you sometimes lost track of reality, it was very disorientating. With DMT I had no feeling of disorientation at all. I knew where I was and why I was there. I felt safe and completely at home. Although I couldn’t feel my body I would have sworn that I had been still all the way through my ‘journey’ but the people with me said I had been moving my arms as though I were swimming or dancing and that as soon as I went under I went totally white (like I was dead someone said) and stopped breathing for a while I then took a deep breath and gradually recovered my natural colour. I was told before taking it that I would have a near death experience. For all I try, I can’t equate this to my conscious minds interpretation of death. I have had general anaesthetic on five occasions and this seems more of what I would have expected from a death like experience. (I had very strong visuals and a distorting of time, each time I went under, but it was all very chaotic and ‘dark’) This was more of a definite sensation of going somewhere else, somewhere much more real than any reality I had ever experienced. There was a moment when I felt myself being swallowed by the earth when I might have thought OHOH but I don’t recall it very clearly. It was as if before I could bring the sensation of fear to my mind it had already been wiped out.
I haven’t had the opportunity to try this again but if it came along, or if I could try Lucia, I would... I still need to see what’s on the other side of the other side and go through the portal or maybe that’s what’s waiting for me at the end.
I had another experience similar to this in a lucid dream a few years ago after having meditated regularly for a year or so but writing this has left me buzzing and I will have to calm down a bit before I can write about that. Again, I had the same sensation of the dream being more real than reality and had a strange electrical vibration all through it. Whenever I recount either of these two experiences the hairs all over my body stand on end and I get a warm glow and an excited sensation.

I wonder why DMT is not used in anaesthetics is it because they want us to have experiences driven by fear.

Hi Fiona...
I have met other beings who looked almost exactly the way you described. They did not have the humanish body as much, they were more long and thin...but the translucence, and the shimmery light like the jellyfish who glow in the very dark water...and the wings.

They were like underwater wings, moving in that way, more flowing than the flat flap flap of butterflies here. And they were big, bigger than me, and soft.

I never did DMT, but where I met them was in the darkness, that 3D darkness, beyond that, in another dreaming place.
There were more than one of them there, and two of them came around me, one was in the front and one behind me...and they came very close, squishing up on me, to where if it was physical, I probably would have suffocated.

But I could feel them, and it was not meant like that, they were so soft, their energy. And it was like electricity, but a softness. I really like them, and sometimes they are there when I go into that space.

They don't seem to speak with words, or even thought words...no images that have anything to do with this place. But I can feel them, and it is pretty clear that they can feel me.

Hi Elew,

Wow.. must be the same ones.. These were human-like as in they had head and body and arms and legs but, yes, larger and the way they 'spoke' was also strange I know they told me a lot of other things but I can't remember the words and these communications were mostly orders; look up, be calm, go here etc. We didn't actually have a conversation I just knew they were saying these things to me in my head. (I can't remember the actual sound of their voice now that I try but I do remember feeling really good when I 'heard' it) And yes, the wings were like made of skin or even the texture of squid but finer and flappy and HUGE, bigger than them!

Now, when I have problems, I send my 'angels' to wherever I need help and I have had some great results although, at times, I know there are things I have to deal with myself. They mostly are of help in situations where I feel I can't do anything. You can all call on them too, they are really happy to be asked for help.

Maybe they don't want you watching what they are doing.

Yeah, the beings I know, they don't have arms and legs like that...and they are not angels, or there to help me. They are just their own selves, and it is nice to meet them.

Yes, the wings are very big, bigger than their bodies...and feeling like squid...I have described it as whale skin, but yes, that same ocean like water rubbery feeling.

I like to meet other beings, but I don't tend to ask them for anything. There are some beings, that they may seem nice, and even feel nice, but I would not want to be indebted to them.

There are some who would do anything for you, and not have that energeitic debt tie...but with me, they seem to just notice, and do things, I don't have to ask.

But I am curious, if you mean that these jellyfly beings, are who you mean as your angels...and if you have only met one, one time, how could you know that they are the ones doing what you ask?

I think you lost me there...

Hi Elew
I did only have contact with these beings on one occasion but there were several of them, not just one... It was just the one that 'spoke' to me. And I say 'angels' in inverted commas because that's what they felt like to me angles, fairies.. our vocabulary is very limited and I suppose I'm still stuck in the rut of naming things. I know they are beings and as far as I can make out form another dimension. Like I said I don't usually ask them to do things that I can do for myself but tend to ask them to protect or guide loved ones who I can't help myself. I don't believe I am creating a debt to them.. I can feel them nudging me sometimes in a certain direction and had the feeling that they were far wiser than me so I suppose I tend to take notice. When I close my eyes even now, I get a good image of them but it's like something projected onto a screen. I'm going to try getting back to meditation again as I think this helps. I don't want to mess around too much with chemicals, no matter how benign, as I am having some health issues at the moment. I would love to try DMT again but have high blood pressure and they don't recommend that you do it. I'm working on my bp but it is secondary to another condition which also needs working on... so I have my work cut out for me!
