Marty,

We have a few NLP practitioners on the FORUM including James, the guy who will be directing the "Voices" movie. It would be interesting to get an NLP thread going here on the FORUM. I have been told many times times that ITLAD/CTF and NLP have areas of overlap that can be used to increasing understanding of both concepts.

Sorry for the late response Tony, lots going on in the workplace.

There is definitely overlapp in ITALD and NLP. I was explaining the concept of getting so caught up in a particular situation that you forget about the rest of the world or rather, the rest of the possible ways to perceive the world. I was explaining to be like trying on a different pair of glasses and this particular metaphor of framing and frames seems to be a relevant one.

Loving the book. Will continue on with it. Hope you're well Tony.

Recently, I was playing with the kindle app on my new PC. I found a book for free download on one of the webpages I came across. The Book is titled "The American Book of the Dead" and it was written by Henry Baum. I am still on the first chapter, so the things I'm seeing that are reminding me of Tony's works may not continue throughout. But I am particularly reminded of The Daemon.

http://www.theamericanbookofthedead.com/ Consider the following excerpts:

"So, if the young man in 2008 is writing this book and you-his-elder-are helping him, he's not a prophet at all. Really, he's getting Cliffs Notes from the future. True and False. First he had to bother to ask. He had to know which answers to look for. I am proud of him; he's closer to me than a son. I could not write the book for him. In short, it's a two-way street."

"Here's where it gets confusing. ... Long story short, it's the book you are reading. So where's the confusion? The book was about a writer in his fifties working on a book. In the future the book has yet to be written, even if it was written in the past. Complicated, but it solved one issue. The older writer is not aware of the book that has already been published because in his world the book has not been written. But wait-I hear people say- you've been talking as if the war has already occurred and the novel has yet to be conceived. Here's my answer: time doesn't exist. All of these different stories are happening at once."
Sometimes I believe that this less material life is our truer life, and that our vain presence on the terraqueous globe is itself the secondary or merely virtual phenomenon.----------H.P. Lovecraft

Laurel bought me Musicophilia for Christmas and I'm just getting stuck into it now. After enjoying The man who mistook his wife for a Hat I think I'm guarenteed to enjoy this book.

Really interested in the brain plasticity aspect of these books. We're all so unique.

Wow, looks like a great book - esp being a musician myself!

Sacks describes how music can animate people with Parkinson’s disease who cannot otherwise move, give words to stroke patients who cannot otherwise speak, and calm and organize people whose memories are ravaged by Alzheimer’s or amnesia.

Toward the end of my grandfathers life he was in a 'ward' with Parkinsons & dementia. He would often sing hymns and had a reputation with the care staff for being very good at it.
I never heard him sing aloud before that. I guess he found it therapeutic.

I've had to take a break from that book, it's a bit heavy loaded and rather long!

I've broken it up by very quickly reading "Bright lights big city". This is one of my top 10 films and the book is equally brilliant. Anytime we get to vicariously enjoy a characters downward spiral into a world of drugs and chaos it's always rather fun, seeing them emerge on the other side is also a bonus!

I'm currently reading Mind Power by James Borg. It's actually very good. It's the same information we've been told before, change your thinking change your life etc. But the messages are delivered in a very helpful and constructive fashion. It's also a lot more realistic about the extent to which you can improve things for yourself and the way you can go about it.

Hitch-22 - Christopher Hitchens - A memoir.

Very heavy reading but totally worth it for the (many) little moments of genius. Hitchens is an intellectual heavyweight and is ridiculously well versed on any subject imaginable. Only 125 pages in but, what else is there to do on a sunny Bank holiday when you're stuck at work.

The curious incident of the dog in the night time

AMAzing book. Written in the style of an autistic teenager, if you are not enthralled and hooked after 2-3 pages than there is seriously something wrong with you. I'll leave it at that. Empathy overload from our part for a character that cannot really reciprocate.

Flipnosis - Kevin Dutton - What an awesome book. Read it very quickly cover to cover. All about the art of persuasion, psychology and the things which allow some to shine where others fail. A bundle of examples of incredibly mind-blowing experiments used to illustrate some of the theories and ideas. A great section on what makes psychopaths tick and how they differ from me and you....or you. There is a lot to digest and would one would probably, actually definitely benefit from mutiple reads.

Solar - Ian McEwan

Very funny. Nice Dark Humour. Mr Beard's life is a spiraling path of inevitable destruction. Former Winner of the Nobel Prize, Beard is recovering from his 5th marriage whist trying to tame the politics of alternative energy and all it has to offer.

A great read .
