I teach people how to wake up out of sleep paralysis

Can you explain how sleep paralysis occurs, it is random? Can it be induced? How? I have never had it.

I'm not sure if you asked me, so I'll answer:
When you wake up from REM, your body is naturally paralyzed (it's called REM atonia, IIRC). Sometimes people wake up before the body has stopped making the paralyzing signal, and their arms and legs are still paralyzed. Even though their eyelids are usually closed, they're not paralyzed. In this state your dreaming is still happening, but you have woken up and can't move- and your mind is then still in sleep mode, so you may experience visions/hallucinations/projected dreams or whatever you want to call them.

The way I break sleep paralysis is to wiggle my big toe, it always works for me, but some people also recommend trying to wiggle a finger. This usually breaks paralysis and also stops the image generation right away for me.
